Updates, news
This blog is where I post any news or new songs (also on the Facebook page). It's worth checking here
for any favourite songs - you can do a search for a song title or topic at the top- as I don't always put
new songs on the main songs lists straight away; they only get updated now and then.
You are welcome to add comments to any of the posts (polite ones of course), but I don't always get
notified of comments for some reason, so if you have a query, it's easiest to send me a message via
"Contact Me" (I never share email addresses, and you don't need to put an address or phone number).

This is another lovely old song. I’ve written it out in 3/4 timing, though it’s a little tricky in the chorus. It’s based on the Danny Doyle recording (link below and on the song sheets).
If you would like to see the notation, you can find it at https://www.irish-folk-songs.com/whiskey-on-a-sunday-song-lyrics-and-chords.html" target="_blank">irish-folk-songs.com in the key of C or G (6/8 and 3/4 timing). It's also played in 4/4 or 8/8, so you can choose which rhythm you'll use!
Here are the links to the songsheets:
- for guitar - L.13 Whiskey On a Sunday_Key G
- for ukulele - L.17 Whiskey On a Sunday_Key G
- for banjo - L.11 Whiskey On a Sunday_Key G
There is a YouTube clip of the song here (2 semitones higher so use a capo on 2nd fret if you want to play along): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cd8I1PNV9io

This is a fun song to do in a group; it has a catchy rhythm and works well with a variety of instruments and some vocal harmonies. I like the “Live at Daryl’s House” version, as it’s a bit more relaxed pace and you can see/hear the different instruments and voices (the link on the songsheets is to the official video).
Darius Rucker sings it in Key A, so I’ve written it out for guitar, ukulele and banjo in Key G (capo 2 to play in the recorded key); but we found that was not good for our voices, so I’ve done a Key C version as well.
The lyrics can be difficult to fit into the rhythm. I’ve left the 3rd verse off the song sheet, as it’s really the chorus that’s easy and fun to sing – you can repeat it ad lib. (You can always find the lyrics for the 3rd verse online if you want them).

This is a very pretty Christmas Song, though it has quite a wide range from low to high, so it’s not easy to sing.
I’ve written it out in a few keys to try. If you can use a capo, it’s easier to find a reasonable key to play & sing in.
Here are the links to the song sheets:
for guitar -
gL 5_Do You Hear What I Hear_Key G (Chords: G,D7,Em,D,C)
gL 8_Do You Hear What I Hear_Key C (Chords: C,G7,Am,G,F)
gL 16_Do You Hear What I Hear_Key A (Chords: A,E7,F#m,E,D)
for ukulele –
uL.5_Do You Hear What I Hear_Key C (Chords: C,G7,Am,G,F)
uL.15_Do You Hear What I Hear_Key G (Chords: G,D7,Em,D,C)
uL.17_Do You Hear What I Hear_Key A (Chords: A,E7,F#m,E,D)
for banjo -
bL 5_Do You Hear What I Hear_Key G (Chords: G,D7,Em,D,C)
bL 8_Do You Hear What I Hear_Key C (Chords: C,G7,Am,G,F)
bL 16_Do You Hear What I Hear_Key A (Chords: A,E7,F#m,E,D)
You can find a video clip of the song online – search on YouTube for "Do You Hear What I Hear Bing Crosby"

This is a stirring sea shanty which is good to play on on guitar, ukulele and banjo: it has a slow, regular pace, and the tune is easy to memorise. There are only 3 chords: D, G and A.
You may need a capo if it’s too low to sing (the Clancy Brothers recording is in Eb, so capo 1), or you could transpose to a different key to suit your vocal range (e.g. Key G: chords G, C, D).
I've written out 2 versions; the second has fewer chord changes, so is easier to play, especially on banjo.

I've finally finished writing up a couple of new songs: couldn't resist trying "Summer Wonderland", Ronan Keating's "Southern Hemisphere" version of Winter Wonderland ... and then I thought I may as well write out Winter Wonderland as well.
I'll add them to the songs lists sometime soon, but in the meantime, here are the links to the PDF song sheets:
for GUITAR:
Level 14_Summer Wonderland_Key C (Chords: C, G, G7, F, Dm, Em, E, B7, D)
Level 14_Winter Wonderland_Key C (Chords: C, G, G7, F, Dm, Em, E, B7, D)
Level 16_ Summer Wonderland_Key G (Chords: G, D, D7, C, Am, Bm, B, F#7, A)
Level 16_ Winter Wonderland_Key G (Chords: G, D, D7, C, Am, Bm, B, F#7, A)
You can use a capo on guitar (4th fret) to bring the Key C version of Summer Wonderland up to E as in the video clip, or just play the Key G version (which we found easier to sing, though the chords are trickier).
Winter Wonderland is also in a hard-to-sing key – the C chords version needs a capo on 1st fret (2nd fret at end) to match Michael Buble’s version; easier to sing (but again, harder to play) in Key G.
for UKULELE:
Level 18+_Summer Wonderland_Key G (Chords: G, D, D7, C, Am, Bm, B, F#7, A)
Level 18+_Winter Wonderland_Key G (Chords: G, D, D7, C, Am, Bm, B, F#7, A)

Things have been very quiet with CathysChords this year; I've been dealing with major family health issues, and have had little energy or inclination to work on music. The site seemed to be less popular, and donations had died off so I thought maybe it had passed its use-by date and wouldn't be worth supporting any longer.
However, there has been an influx of support with messages and donations, so it seems there's still life in the old site!
Many thanks to all those who have supported the site both in the past and recently - you have encouraged me to continue, and I've updated the subscription for the next year, so the site will still be around for some time yet... hope you keep enjoying it, and stay tuned for some new songs soon!!

I haven't been able to make any new songs sheets for ages, but I'm hoping that the links to the current songs have now all been fixed (please let me know if you find any duds!)
Thank you to Dianne for her suggestion of Aussie versions of favourite Christmas songs, including “Deck the Sheds with Bits of Wattle” and “Aussie Jingle Bells”.
You can find the lyrics for these songs online:
Deck the Sheds with Bits of Wattle
- just play the songs using the chords as in the current song sheets for the normal versions.
The site linked to (alldownunder.com) also has explanations of the Aussie terms, and a link to where you can purchase a CD of the songs if you like.
Hope you all enjoy the Christmas season!

Unfortunately, some of the links I replaced a few months ago don't seem to be working. Now that I've realised, I'm gradually going through every link on the site to check which ones need to be fixed... but it's a slow job.
In the meantime, there should be alternative links to all songs - so if you find one that doesn't work on one page, look for the same song (at the same level) on one of the other pages. If you find all the links for one song don't work, it would be a big help if you can let me know so I can prioritise that song.
Another problem that has hit my site (not a good year so far!!) is that I had some of the pictures stored in Photobucket, and they have now been unlinked, as Photobucket won't allow '3rd party hosting' anymore without monthly fees - well beyond my budget. I think I've found all the pictures that have been hidden and put them back onto the site, so they should all be visible, although the new Webs 'site builder' is still playing havoc with my formatting, so it will look odd in places.
The new formatting is still causing other problems, too - sometimes I find the punctuation ( ' and - ) replaced with ? ..... so apologies if you encounter that!
I'm hoping it will eventually get sorted, but at least that all the song sheets will be available somewhere on the site.

It's the end of March, and everything seems to be working now without any major problems!
All the pages on the site have been updated to the new site format, all the song sheet files have been moved to a new storage folder in Dropbox, and all the important links to the song sheets have been re-done on the main site lists.
I took the opportunity to fix up some of the older ( guitar) song sheets; these revised sheets are marked on the lists of guitar songs.
Some of the pages (Kids' Songs, Songs for Oldies, Christmas Songs) have also been revised to add in ukulele/ banjo versions of songs (though I haven't added links on those lists, just the titles; the song sheet links are available in the main lists for each instrument).
So I'm hoping everything will continue to run smoothly, but please do let me know if you notice any odd things or links that are not working!

2017 has had a frustrating start so far - first, the website builder I use was changed, so the whole site no longer worked, and I had to find a new template (from a very limited range), adjust the layout of all the pages, and try to use a new site builder which often won't work at all! So much for 'progress'...
One result of all this was that I spent so long on the computer that my latent R.S.I. in right arm became a major problem and I was told not to use my right hand at all for some time to prevent permanent damage. I am restricted to using my left hand ... a very slow and tedious option.
Then I received another blow - from Dropbox, where I store all the song sheet files on this site. They announced they would be closing the 'Public' folder I was using on 15 March, so all the files have to be moved and re-linked before then, when all the old links will no longer work!
I have spent many hours checking files, re-loading, making new links, and inserting new links on the main lists of songs (in levels - see below), but I won't be able to get all the links replaced on every page on the site.
If you find a song sheet link that doesn't work, try the main lists:
If you find a song sheet link that doesn't work on those 3 pages, please let me know via the Guestbook or on the https://www.facebook.com/CathysChords/" target="_blank">Facebook page.
Thank you for your patience!
