Hi Texas Bert,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a message. I'm so glad that you are finding the song sheets useful and are enjoying playing them on your ukulele.
The PDF sheets should just open in your internet browser so you can read them or you can download them to keep on your computer or print them off. I like to print mine so I can make notes (or corrections!), and so that I can see all the verses at once.
You are very welcome to join as a member; just click on the members link... though I confess I very rarely send out member emails; I tend to just add items to the News page or to the Facebook page occasionally when there is something new to report.
I'm currently trying to go through all the song sheets on the site to check for errors, but it's a long slow process and I am hindered by the pain from my RSI, so it could be a long time before I get it all done!
If you have any queries about any of the songs or if you have trouble with the PDF sheets please let me know,
Warm regards,
Cathy :)

Many excellent songs across a wide range of genres, suitable for use with and by children as well as uke clubs for all ages. Very clear and accurately positioned notation of chords. VERY well categorised by level. Extremely useful to have many songs repeated at increasing and different levels of difficulty. A first lass archive. Many thanks.
Thank you Alan for your very kind comment. I apologise for not resonding sooner (I thought I had).

Hi Debra,
I'm afraid I know nothing at all about Apple systems. There seem to be many others with the same problem but Google seems to offer some solutions.
Can you just download the file you want to your computer and open it with your PDF viewer instead of using your Internet browser? Hope you work it out!

Thank you so much for a terrific site. The music is easy and fun to play. My grandkids are loving the time they sing and dance while I play. I have some books and sheet music but most of it is not for kids and to hard or annoying to play so it never gets used. Please continue with the site. Thank you again for everything you have put into this site.
Hi Liz,
I love the image of your grandkids and you having fun with music together, and I'm glad the site is helping! Thanks for the comments; I do have more kids' songs to add once I get all the current songs re-done ;)

Hello, Cathy, I have been playing Uke for a number of years with a group of about 65, mostly retirees, up here in Toormina (near Coffs Harbour). I just sat down to get my gig book ready for this year and was looking for some alternate chords for "I am Australian" for our Australia Day gig, when I tripped over your music on Cathy's Chords.
I just want to compliment you on the quality of your site. You have laid everything out just as Uke players want. I look forward to more exploration of your site soon. Thanks again for your great work and have a good 2017!

Hi Ron,
Thanks for the lovely message. You must have your hands full with such a big group! I hope you find some songs that will work for you :)
I need to try to re-vamp the site this year as the website formatting has been changed (going to be a huge job, hope my RSI holds out) so bear with me if it looks messy and please et me know if you have any problems.

Hi, thank you for the lovely site. I found it when I was looking for the chords to "The Dutchman". Your songsheet is exactly what I was looking for. Your tutorial on strumming looks useful too - I can do the finger-picking and arpeggio stuff but I cannot strum for toffees.
Kevin in Luxembourg
Hi Kevin, I'm really glad you like the site and the song sheets! If you can do the fingerpicking you're well on the way... just keep having a go at strumming, and you'll find it will come more easily over time.
If you keep tapping along to songs on the radio etc. it will help your awareness of rhythm and that should translate to strumming when it becomes more comfortable.
Have fun!
Cathy :)

Thanks Cathy your right.. if its to be its up to me.
It can be lots of fun... may be worth a try to see if there are others around who want to play together. It can also be a challenge playing with others, as you all have to be able to listen as well as play - and it's good to have a 'leader' for each song. Do let me know if you decide to go ahead, and how it goes :)

Hi Cathy love your site. Have been strumming, plucking and keeping my mind active with my Ibanez Concert. Just wish there was a Uke Group in Wagga. Have friends in Deni and they have a fantastic time..
Hi Garry, glad you're enjoying playing... maybe you can start up a uke group with like-minded people in your area. Do you have a local neighbourhood house?
One of our Friday Folkies moved up the country and missed playing with us, so she put an ad in the local paper and started a group at her place. You just need to copy some of the simpler songs that people know well, to start with....

I've just got my Internet back on - it's been off all month so far, so just getting to reply to messages.
I'm glad your students enjoy the sheets. I haven't done anything lately for the site as I've started back at work (teaching primary school), so I won't make any promises for new songs. I do have quite a few I've started working on, so I may get some finished when I get a spare day or two, and I'll add your request to my "to look at" list.

Hi Cathy
As an almost 70 year old I took up guitar several months ago and struggled with the instrument at first - I started with a steel stringed accoustic but now have a nylon stringed classical style guitar which I enjoy the sound and feel of much better.
I was doing badly at solo playing and also forming chords was difficult (old fingers and joints maybe) however when I found your site it inspired me to whistle or sing along to simple chords and at present I have a list of about 20 songs from your site which I can manage fine. Chord changes are still slow but getting better.
Many thanks for your web site Cathy and a Happy New Year from the other side of the world.
Kind regards
Brian (South Wales, UK.)
Hi Brian,
Thanks so much for taking the time to write; I'm really pleased that the site is helping you to play guitar! It's such a wonderful instrument, though I can understand how it can be difficult with older joints (mine seize up every now and then, though luckily my left hand isn't so bad). If you haven't played for long, of course it's going to take time and lots of practice - try to pick it up frequently and play a song or two several times a day if you can, and take it as slow as you like! I'm glad you're seeing an improvement, and 20 songs is a good repertoire.
We travelled through your part of the world last year - 2 weeks in Sth Wales- and were blown away by the beauty and the hospitality and friendliness. We keep watching Escape to the Country and dreaming of going back one day.
All the best for your playing - please keep me updated on how you're going!
Regards,
Cathy :)

Great site for music - thanks.
We are preparing for a funeral of a dear uncle who was larger than life (could have been a good Aussie) and love many of the songs you have listed. His grandkids, nieces & nephews will be playing these and I appreciate having them all in one place.
A few links were broken like "Leaving On A Jet Plane" and "She'll Be Coming Around The Mountain" from what I can see. If you get them up please let me know.
I just donated to you on Paypal, so thanks again for making these songs available in such an easy format.

thank you so much for your kind donation and positive comments! I really appreciate it- and the notification about the missing links! I'll check them right away, but if you notice any others, I'd be really glad to hear so I can fix them, too.
All the best for the funeral- it sounds as if it will be a great celebration and a wonderful tribute to your uncle. If your family has any other favourite songs that you don't have chords for, let me know in case I have them.

Hi Cathy,
I was just browsing through my E-Mails and so thought I would answer back to your reply. I shall have to look at some of your uke songs. The uke is the first stringed instrument that I was bought by my mum and dad when I was a kid. When I was looking after my grandaughter as a little girl, I bought her a light pink one from a local music shop. I thought it was ideal for her and she loved it. She would sit and join in with me while I was playing nursery rimes to her on the guitar.
You're doing a great job there Cathy, making a lot of people happy. Please carry on the good work and thank's again from me for now.
All the best wishes from John here in West Yorkshire, U.K.
Hi John, Hope you're enjoying your new guitar and that the uke songs bring back some happy memories.
Strangely, I can't find your previous post - I had a notification email on 22 Feb that you had left a message, with the first bit of the message in it, but no link to the post - so maybe it got deleted. I know I've had trouble replying to a couple of posts lately.
Anyhow, I'm glad you like the site and thank you for taking the time to write!

Hi Cathy,

Hi Cathy,
Your website is great. Your guitar charts are perfect for me to teach my 10yo some songs on guitar. The pictures are fun. I know most of the pieces you have chosen and many are my favourites to sing.
I want to donate to you but was worried that the address name in Paypal "gametoread" is not "cathyschords" and thus may be someone else. I don't want the donation going to the wrong person. Can you reassure me?
Oh yes - Just a small correction - "When the Saints Go Marching In" is the theme song for St Kilda in the AFL. South Melbourne hasn't existed in AFL since 1982 when it went to Sydney & became the Sydney Swans. I am guessing you're not from Melbourne.
Cheers, Tracey
Hi Tracey,
Thanks for your message- and it is as well to be wary. "Gametoread" is my email...I make reading games when I'm wearing my Reading Intervention Teacher hat!
I have to confess that I am from Melbourne, just not really into footy (I used to go to dances at the Sth Melbourne footy club, which is down St Kilda way so I still get them mixed up lol - silly mistake to make for the song, though, I'll fix it!). My husband actually used to play for Fitzroy and Footscray, which have both gone, too.
I'm glad your 10-year old is having fun with the songs; I've been asked to look for songs for Oldies lately and I suspect some of them may be the same songs as on the Songs For Kids list.
All the best,
Cathy :)

Dear Cathy. Thank you SO much for this site. It is just what Ii needed. I am 70 years old and have loved these song all my life. I have struggled with the guitar all my life as well but never got far for lack of time and (perhaps) a tin ear. I had hoped to make progress when I retired but a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease five years ago has put paid to any real hope of that. But just to find all these songs graded for the simplest chords has given me great pleasure as I strum the very basic ones on my own. I also appreciate your links to Youtube (complete with identifying the key) and your identifying the lead note of each song. The work you have done is immense. Putting it on the web is a wonderful public service. Cheers from Dundas, Ontario, Canada

PAUL JOHNSON says...
Thanks Cathy.
Do you or anybody else provide strumming patterns over chord / lyric charts?
Regards Paul
Hi Paul,
I don't know of any sheets like you suggest, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were some. Perhaps you could ask at a music store if you can't find them in an online search. I had a quick look online with no results.
Otherwise, try listening to a recording of the song and get an idea of the rhythm in your head (and tap along or strum 'air guitar') so that when you play the song, you have the pattern in mind and you can strum to that. It's really a matter of playing a lot so you get used to an easy strumming action with down and up strokes (the up stroke is usually more of a 'flick' using wrist action).
You could also try YouTube tutorials; I think there are lots of different ones.
Good luck with it, and let me know if you have success or need any tips for particular songs.

Hi MK, thanks so much for your offer- I must admit I've been struggling to keep the site funded lately, as there are very few donations, so I'm grateful for any contributions.
I use Paypal because it's an easy way to transfer money almost instantly in any currency (and it's free to sign up & send money, they just take out a commission at my end). If you're in Australia, you could just send a cheque or pay in at a bank, but if you're in another country I think it would be hard to send money.
Let me know if you are in Australia; otherwise if you don't want to use Paypal, thank you anyway and keep playing!
I'm so pleased that the site is helping you learn Ukulele - it's such a fun instrument for any age!

HALLELUJAH song on a beginner level, PLEASE.
Hi Tim,
the easiest version is probably here:
http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/j/jeff_buckley/hallelujah_ver2_cr
d.htm
the only tricky chord is F, but if you play it in any other key you'll get nastier chords like Bm, so if you are keen on the song it's worth persisting with F (you don't have to play it with a bar chord).
I don't have time to write out a songsheet at the moment, as it takes a fair while to do, but let me know if you have any problems with the version above - looks OK to me.
Cheers,

Thanks for your web site. I am 58 and live in the U.K. I have no musical talent, can't sing and despite paying for guitar lessons failed to learn anything useful. Unwilling to give up completely I bought a tenor Ukulele 12 months ago and am having great fun with it. I still can't sing but it's great fun strumming easy tunes. I've really appreciated your collection of Ukulele songs. With all the songs you've provided it seems greedy to ask for more, but if you could ever get around to it, one of my all time favourites is: Early Morning Rain by P, P and M. Thanks for what you've done to make musical enjoyment accessible to others. Best wishes
Hi David,
Thanks for writing- your story is very heartening, and I'm so glad some of the songs here are helping you to enjoy your musical endeavours!
Singing can be a tricky thing to work on, if you don't have a musical background it can be hard to know how to improve. I’m not a particularly good singer myself but I’m lucky that singing has been part of my life since childhood, so I can usually sing pretty much in tune. I’ve been trying to work out how to help people with little singing experience and I was thinking of writing a page of singing tips, so maybe I’ll get onto that this weekend as I have a quiet couple of days.
Your request for Early Morning Rain is very reasonable- it’s such a great song, and one I love doing. I’ll have to work it out for uke. One problem with uke is that you can’t easily change the key to match a recording, as it’s hard to use a capo and the chords can be tricky in many keys, unless you use bar chords.
You might want to pick up that guitar again and learn some easy chords to play along with recordings or to get easier songs to sing; if you play a song in the key of D, you can put a capo on the first fret and it’s usually easier to sing for a male voice. PP&M are wonderful but they can be hard to sing along to. Bob Dylan is good to sing with, as his songs are usually in a ‘male’ key and fairly simple tunes. Hmmm… I think I’ll start on the Singing Tips page;)
Let me know how you’re going, and all the best- above all, keep having fun!
Regards,
Cathy

Unwilling to give up completely I bought a tenor Ukulele 12 months ago and am having great fun with it. I still can't sing but it's great fun strumming easy tunes. I've really appreciated your collection of Ukulele songs. With all the songs you've provided it seems greedy to ask for more, but if you could ever get around to it, one of my all time favourites is: Early Morning Rain by P, P and M. Thanks for what you've done to make musical enjoyment accessible to others. Best wishes

My 11 year old granddaughter was visiting my for fall break a few weeks ago. She picked up the ukulele that I got 50 years ago and asked me to show her how to play it. We had so much fun playing and singing together although I was getting a little tired of "Skip to My Lou!" I can hardly wait until Christmas to give her the concert uke that I've purchased for her. It's a little nicer than my old Roy Smeck soprano uke! Anyway, your site is perfect for her with all its easy and familiar songs. Thanks for your efforts!
Hi Linda,
How wonderful to be able to share your music with your granddaughter! (Mine is only 2 but I must confess I gave her a little uke last Christmas;))
I bet you can't wait for your granddaughter to open her lovely pressie (lucky girl) and come to visit you! I'm glad you're finding the site useful, too.
Thank you again for your kind donation - I just had to pay an extra $80 to upgrade the site again yesterday, as despite all my juggling of files, re-doing links, setting up alternative sites etc, this site was still getting too much traffic. It's great to think that it's helping so many people enjoy playing and singing, but it's also wonderful to get some $ support - so I really appreciate kind people like you!!
Hope you and your granddaughter enjoy lots more songs together,
Regards,
Cathy:)

Hi Cathy! Your songs are great for me, another beginner guitar player. Thanks especially for the Christmas songs....and also for a personal favorite..".And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda". Would you by any chance have the words and chords for "The Dutchman" ?
Many thanks!
MIchele
Hi Michele,
I'm pleased that you like the songs... and I wasn't sure about the Dutchman till I remembered Celtic Thunder singing it- a really lovely song. I found a beautiful version on YouTube by Liam Clancy, and have been listening to it all afternoon. I've worked out some chords but it's a bit high to sing and the timing's a little tricky, so I need to work on it a bit more. I hope to post it soon. I'll post a message on the blog and on the Facebbok page when I get it done.
Cheers,
Cathy.

Wow, I love your story, Carlos!
What a great way to pass on your knowledge- combining music and language. I've always thought that singing songs (and reciting poems)is an excellent way to encourage kids to speak clearly, as we tend to exaggerate the words when we sing or recite.
I've typed up some first ukulele songs to give out to 1st/2nd grade students in our school 'uke club', thinking it may encourage them to read the words!
Do you only teach English or do you teach some Spanish, too? It's such a beautiful language. I'd love to write up some songs in Spanish, but I'm afraid it's beyond me.
I hope you and your students have lots of fun with the songs!
Cheers,
Cathy

After reading your story, I'm even more happy I found this site. I too am over '50' by 20 some years. I am retired and live in Mazatlan, Mexico. I have 'tinkered' with the acustic guitar for over 40 years. I'm 'self taught' and have my own style. I volunteer to teach 'Primary and Secondary' class kids English twice a week. One of the 'tricks' I use is my old acustic guitar...the kids love it. My problem was finding easy songs. I do not read music and play mostly by ear. Your site is going to help me help some youngsters about my language and some of my culture...while I learn theirs. Thank you so much.

Hi Tiffany, thanks for your kind comment and your good suggestion and offer! I remember hearing a Peter Paul & Mary version and actually had the Burl Ives version of the Fox in my Kids' collection "to maybe do" (but thought it a bit gory for kids), but I checked it out again when you mentioned Bluegrass and looked at Nickel Creek and Pete Seeger versions on YouTube.
I like the Nickel Creek treatment to listen to, but the Pete Seeger version has clear vocals/instrument (and sounds good, too), so I'm writing up that one. It's in D, so different from Nickel Creek's but theirs is available already on the Intenet I see...and D is easier to play with quick changes on guitar. I'll do it for ukulele too.
Thanks again for the suggestion:)

Hi Ian,
thank you for your comments and also your kind donation! I'm glad you like the layout- it's kind of developed over time; I had ads at the start but I don't like advertising products I don't even know and they do get in the way so much- so donations like yours are a big help with the costs!
I'm glad you like the 'big print' aspect, too... I find I need clear print when I'm playing, so figured I may as well make the font as large as feasible on the song sheets;)
Hope you keep enjoying the songs; I hope to get a couple more done in the next few weeks.

I'll be eligible for "over 60's" discounts myself in a few months and have no intentions of slowing down anytime soon (except that when I eventually retire I'll have more time for diverse interests - just less money to pursue them...)
I'm still a beginner on ukulele too, but it's such a fun instrument - it's "cool" for the young ones according to my son, but it's still a great easy-to-play instrument for all ages ;)

Los Angeles Uke says...
Thanks for the Ukulele chords and songs. Where may I find the actual musical notation for the songs? Some of them are unfamiliar to me, and the lyrics with chords do not help me to learn them. Unless I already know the songs, the lyrics with chords are rather meaningless. (It's like chorded poetry). Is there a place to find the songs with both traditional notation and chords? I'm enjoying the "old favorites" and I'd like to learn the new ones.
Hi there, I'm glad you're enjoying the songs. You can find notation for some songs online (try Google etc) but mostly the notation is copyright and you'd have to buy the 'sheet music' or find a book with the music notation in. You can find a version of most songs on YouTube, so you can pick up the tune from the recording there.
I'm trying to put a link to a YouTube recording on most of my new song sheets as I do them, to help people who don't know the song. I find there are often several versions of a song; also some people may like to "play along" with a recording if feasible.
I'm gradually starting to go though my older song sheets and add YouTube links and timing hints, but it's a slow process.
Hope this helps,
Cathy

Thanks for the Ukulele chords and songs. Where may I find the actual musical notation for the songs? Some of them are unfamiliar to me, and the lyrics with chords do not help me to learn them. Unless I already know the songs, the lyrics with chords are rather meaningless. (It's like chorded poetry). Is there a place to find the songs with both traditional notation and chords? I'm enjoying the "old favorites" and I'd like to learn the new ones.

absolutely awesome. You are helping to make dreams come true. I work with children and have been trying to play for them for a year or so without success. Now i can play some songs.
THANKYOU SO MUCH!

Hi Jimmy,
thank you for taking the time to write- I love to hear that this site is helping people, and I'm SO pleased that it's helping you achieve what you want!
Playing for children is so rewarding- they don't mind if you're not brilliant. I think it's really good for kids to see adults muck up and accept it - I always let them know that I make mistakes and you don't have to be perfect;) You can always slow down a bit with kids, too, as it makes it easier for them to learn a song as well.
Let me know if you have a favourite song that you'd like me to include (if I know it) or if you have any queries about playing,
Cheers,
Cathy

Love your website. As a newbee to the guitar world I appreciate the excellent instruction for a beginner. Was going down the list of songs for the guitar and printed out a few that I especially liked. Did notice the song "Where have all the flowers gone" is showing as "Will the circle be unbroken." Looks like a duplicate.
Thanks again.
Thanks for that, Gordon! Sometimes the links get mixed up, so I'll check them all. I'm really glad you let me know- and that you're enjoying the site!

Thank you so much for a wonderful site. I took up guitar 3 years ago in my fifties just for my own pleasure. I have had so much pleasure playing your songs. Please ... keep up the good work; this is absolutely the best site I have found for guitar players at my level.

Hi John,
Thank you - you've put a big smile on my face! I'm so pleased that you like the site, and I'm encouraged to keep doing more songs. I have to do lots of reports for work at the moment which is not good for my RSI but when my typing hand recovers, I hope to do some new songs for guitar as well as ukulele.
Thanks again for your lovely comment:)

My mum was over 70 when she got her PhD and she tried belly dancing in her 80's...she's now 91 and heading off to UK and China next month.
I aim to keep learning new things till I drop - the Internet has made it all so accessible, hasn't it?
Keep having fun and please let me know if you have any questions or problems.

Hi Cathy,
This is such a wonderful site to show the experience of a guitarist, I have the ame feelings as you do to play guitar. I learnt guitar when I was 16, it was 38 years ago, at that time, we played Peter, Paul and Mary, Don Mclean, John Denver songs. I still love to play and sing on those simple songs, I had just bought a new acoustic guitar, which is a Epiphone AJ-100, it sounds good, Now, I am teaching my 14 years old son on guitar, and I found lots of useful material and idea from your site, I hope my son can enjoy on those beautiful music, please keep this site going, God bless

Hi Samuel,
I only just saw your comment- thank you for taking the time to write in my guestbook.
We do seem to have the same tastes! Your guitar sounds a lot fancier than mine (I bought mine for 14,000 pesetas in Barclona - about $140- many years ago, and I still cherish it).
How good that you are teaching your son! It's wonderful to be able to pass on a passion (which is why I set up this site). I hope your son enjoys the songs! my son never really took to guitar when he was younger but now at 21 he wishes he'd learnt. He loves the same music that I do, so I'm lucky .
All the best with your playing and with your son's lessons!

Love the site! I'm learning ukulele, and the key transposer is perfect. I learned to transpose on the fly years ago, but it's a rusty skill, and I was doing on trombone. Totally different from a chorded instrument. Thanks for sharing!
Chords make it so much easier, don't they? Ukulele seems to be becoming much more popular here in Australia - they featured it at the recent Maldon Folk festival. Some of the songs here may be good for ukulele.
Thanks for your comments :)

Hi Juliana,
I hope Brendan can forgive me... perhaps you can save your Public Performances for birthdays and Special Occasions....:D
I have to admit, I don't play in front of my family usually, just in my bedroom or if there's no one around. Greg and Alex are tolerant, but the cat used to take off as soon as she heard the guitar - I think she's getting a bit deaf, as it doesn't seem to bother her so much now.
I'm so pleased you're finding the songs useful! Maybe you can find someone else to play and sing with - that makes it so much more fun! (Maybe Brendan needs a new hobby....)

Now I am very good, at least I think I am good, at playing the level 5 'The Sound of Silence'. I love this song very much. I intended to learn to play the one I requested, 'Those were the days', but find it a little 2 hard.
Thanks for always adding new songs. I am always checking and trying those easy ones one by one. The gentlemen at home sometimes find me annoying coz I told them it's a manner to clap your hands when you find a good performance; they always need me to remind them to clap ;))
I've just returned from a trip to Orlando and will post some pictures to FB soon.

I really like the starting note provided with your songs. It helps me to maintain the right pitch and not to sing to low. I find the right startingt note by using the lowest not in the chorus. If I do not have a guitar with me to find the A note, for example, I will use my digital processing tuner on the pitch setting and sing into it until it indicates the note. Which method do use to find the note to start a song?
That's a good idea, using the digital tuner... I'm assuming that ppl have a guitar to use with these songs (and some means to tune it!). Old-fashioned pitch pipes are OK but only give the open string notes, on one octave (except for the high and low E) so it's generally better to make the note on the guitar.
